Product Manager

The Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit behind Wikipedia, is hiring a Lead Product Manager for its Abstract Wikipedia initiative—a groundbreaking project aiming to make encyclopedic knowledge accessible in every language by combining human collaboration with technologies like natural language generation (NLG) and computational linguistics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop and maintain a roadmap that balances near-term goals with long-term vision.
- Align stakeholders, communities, and internal teams on strategy and execution.
- Product Execution:
- Own the full product lifecycle from ideation through release and iteration.
- Use both quantitative and qualitative data to identify user needs, measure outcomes, and validate assumptions.
- Release features incrementally to deliver value and test impact.
- Process and Leadership:
- Establish and improve product development best practices.
- Lead product discovery, backlog prioritization, and strategic trade-offs.
- Clearly articulate the product vision to both internal and external audiences.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 7+ years of product management experience in software development.
- Expertise in product management frameworks, execution, and strategic planning.
- Ability to translate ambiguous goals into actionable tasks and product features.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially across distributed teams.
- Proficient in project management, time management, and navigating evolving priorities.
- Experience working remotely across international time zones.
Preferred/Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience in natural language processing (NLP), computational linguistics, or knowledge systems.
- Background in building multilingual products and understanding internationalization/localization.
- Familiarity with or contribution to Wikimedia projects (e.g., Wikipedia editing).
