Product Designer – AQskill

Product Designer

Published 1 week ago

You’ll shape end-to-end product experiences at Metabase—working with small engineering teams to design and ship simple, elegant solutions for complex analytics workflows.
This role is deeply product-focused: you’ll challenge unnecessary complexity, turn abstract ideas into tangible concepts quickly, and help the team move from rough explorations to polished outcomes that feel right in real use.

Key Responsibilities
• Partner closely with engineers (and product collaborators) to design and deliver end-to-end solutions for complex product problems in Metabase.
• Create experiences that are clear, intuitive, and visually refined across large web application surfaces.
• Push back on feature and UX complexity, helping teams simplify flows and protect product quality.
• Explore ideas rapidly using the right medium for the moment—high-fidelity UI, FigJam flows, writing, prototypes, or lightweight LLM-assisted concepts.
• Collaborate with engineers early to understand technical constraints, system behavior, and implementation opportunities.
• Iterate quickly and broadly in scrappy ways that make unclear ideas concrete and move decisions forward.
• Use user insights from the broader team to internalize customer needs, workflows, and mental models, then translate those into better product decisions.
• Communicate design rationale clearly in both written and spoken form, especially in async collaboration environments.
• Contribute to a design culture that values real-world outcomes, thoughtful craft, and practical iteration over rigid process.

Ideal Candidate
• Strong experience designing for complex product challenges, with work that shows both strategic thinking and strong visual/interaction craft.
• Thinks in user journeys, workflows, and systems—not just isolated screens.
• Bias toward making and testing ideas, rather than over-indexing on presentations or process artifacts.
• Comfortable sharing work early, collaborating openly, and iterating with engineers and designers in public.
• Detail-oriented with a high quality bar for interaction design, usability, and visual polish.
• Strong communicator who can explain design decisions and trade-offs clearly in writing and conversation.
• Comfortable working asynchronously and collaborating effectively in a remote/distributed setup.
• Experience designing for large web apps, internal tools, or data-heavy software products.
• Technical enough to understand system complexity at a high level and use that understanding to simplify product experiences.

Nice to Have
• Experience designing or prototyping interfaces that involve LLM-powered workflows or AI-assisted interactions.
• Familiarity with web development concepts (HTML, CSS, React).
• Technical background or education (e.g., computer science or similar).
• Experience building or using developer tools.
