Project Manager

The Wikimedia Foundation—best known for supporting Wikipedia—is hiring a contract Project Manager to work within its Communications department. The organization values collaboration, openness, and global inclusion, and this role supports critical cross-team communication efforts aligned with its annual plan strategies. The role focuses on helping manage projects, initiatives, and campaigns that span the entire department, especially cross-team collaborations. You will work with writers, designers, PR professionals, marketers, and movement communications experts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist senior and departmental project managers with:
- Project scoping
- Establishing team structures and roles
- Stakeholder identification
- Scheduling and risk communication
- Ensure smooth communication and team dynamics across projects
- Maintain documentation, run project retrospectives, and distill best practices
- Track and report qualitative and quantitative project metrics
- Help maintain team accountability to goals and timelines
- Mitigate scope creep and perfectionism while managing workload balance
Required Skills & Experience:
- 2+ years in project management or related roles
- 2+ years experience working remotely with distributed teams
- Experience with:
- Asana (project management tool)
- Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.)
- Strong skills in:
- Planning and prioritization
- Time and stakeholder management
- Risk anticipation and problem-solving
- Facilitation and decision-making
- Ability to:
- Work across cultures and time zones
- Adapt to ambiguous or shifting project scopes
